Chapter 31

Lisa

Listening to Shyla wailing for that no-good-ass Keyvon had pissed me off. I wanted to grab ahold of her and shake some sense into her. Luckily for her, we were in this police station, so I pretended as if I didn’t see nor hear her. Shoot, hearing he was dead was even better than trying to pin this shooting on him. I just hoped Zyquan didn’t get stuck with all the mess Shy had created. I continued to sit and watch the policeman try his best to pretend he gave a rip about Shy’s well-being. All he cared about was finding out which nigga had killed Keyvon’s grimy ass. It wasn’t long before his true intentions bled through the wool he had pulled over Shy’s eyes. It really surprised me that she’d caught on so quickly. She knew she had to get out of there before her emotions interfered with her so-called rational thinking.

I rose to my feet and attempted as best I could to act like I cared about any of this shit. I had to get back home to Al. I had to make sure he didn’t leave me. My sole purpose of coming down here was because he’d sent me. I wasn’t thinking about any of this shit. “Although I didn’t like the young man, I still hate that he had to lose his life before he asked for forgiveness,” I uttered to Officer Johnson. I shook his hand before I exited the room.

The look on his face screamed deceit. I knew he was up to no good. I knew that look all too well. I’d done plenty of things that I wasn’t proud of, and the looks of shame and guilt are almost always evident. I’m not one hundred percent sure, but I bet those damn policemen were lying to Shy. They wanted to scare her into telling them what they wanted to hear while trying to convince her that she could be tried as a murderer.

I stepped outside of the police station and saw Shyla walking down the road. I quickly rushed to my car, hopped inside, and started the ignition. I backed out of the parking spot, heading in her direction. I still have to kill that damn baby of hers, I thought to myself. I drove alongside her and politely asked her to get inside so we could go home.

“I’m not going anywhere with you,” she quickly made known to me as she kept on walking.

I eased along the side of the road, trying to convince her to get into the car, but her persistence was getting the better of me. I pulled off the road, placed my car in park, and ran up behind her. I snatched her arm in an attempt to force her to my car. I thought compelling her into my car would be such an easy task, but Shyla sure proved me wrong. The more I tried to push her towards my car, the harder she pulled away from me.
